If you, as a player, have two starting cards which do not have an ace, always hit if you have on hand eight or less and always stand if you have 17 to 21. If you have nine, check if the dealer has three through six and double, otherwise hit. For ten, double if the dealer has two through nine; if not, hit. For 11, hit if the dealer has ace or double if the he has two through ten. For 12, stand if the dealer has four to six (otherwise, hit), and hit if he has two or three. For 13 to 16, stand if the dealer has two to six, if not, hit.

For starting cards with an ace, always stand if you have an ace eight or an ace nine. For an ace two and an ace three, double if dealer has five or six, otherwise hit. If you have an ace four or an ace five, double if he has four to six, if not hit. For an ace six, double if he has three through six, hit if otherwise. For an ace seven, stand if the dealer has two, seven or eight; double if three through six, hit if otherwise.

If you are playing pairs, always split if you have ace pairs or eight pairs; always stand for a pair of tens. With two-pair or three-pair, split if the dealer has two through seven; if not, hit. A pair of fours tells you to split if the dealer has five or six, otherwise hit. Having a pair of fives, you double if he has two through nine, if not, hit. For a six-pair, split if he has two through six, otherwise hit. For a pair of sevens, split if dealer has two to seven; hit if otherwise. And, for a pair of nines, split two through six, eight or nine or stand if he has seven, ten, or an ace.

As a player, you need to practice and practice and practice before playing. Know the above principles by heart so that you will not be carrying your flash cards with you when you play. That would be too embarrassing and other players may even charge you of cheating.
